Dream Team Is Over
By Ron Allen
It would be easy to assume that the Valiente ‘Dream Team’ of Adolfo Cambiaso (10) and Facundo Pieres (10) has come to an end because they lost the Open to DRF. The idea was to try it for a season with everything to win. Who would ever think they could enter a team that, somehow, could manage to upset the number one and number two players in the world wearing the same team jerseys?
After all, the young upstarts of DRF already had a shot at Valiente. In the first game of the Whitney Cup Valiente easily beat DRF 13 to 10. Both players are now headed to England for the summer season on separate teams in the Queens Cup and Gold Cup. Adolfo will continue his long-term relationship with Bob Jornayvaz and Valiente while Facu will team up with Mike Bickford on his La Indiana team.
In the fall they will go head to head in the Argentine Triple Crown, Cambiaso with La Dolfina and Pieres playing on his family team Ellerstina. Next season in Wellington, Florida everything changes. Facundo, reportedly, already has an agreement in place to play for Pilot in the lower 22 goal at IPC while his former teammate, Adolfo, will be playing across town in the new 26 goal World Polo League.
